Shieldaig Lodge Overview
Location: Gairloch, West Highlands, Scotland
Shieldaig Lodge is set in a stunning and secluded West Highland location overlooking Shieldaig Bay and surrounded by a glorious 26,000 acre estate. Once a hunting lodge in Victorian times, Shieldaig Lodge has been recently refurbished and improved whilst retaining all of its period charm and style.
The Lodge offers a choice of 12 individual guest bedrooms which cleverly blend antiques and the building’s period features with modern conveniences and cosy touches. The hotel restaurant uses produce direct from the estate including venison, beef from Highland cattle and rare breed lamb. Being by the water’s edge means there’s a supply of superb local seafood and the Shieldaig has its own walled garden supplying the kitchen with fresh seasonal vegetables.
Shieldaig’s Liberator bar offers a mind-boggling selection of over 250 sought-after Scottish malt whiskies as well as a choice of over 100 craft gins. The hotel can set up your own whisky tasting and sampling and there’s even the chance to try your hand at blending your own whisky.
The local area and estate is a haven for wildlife and renowned for great walking, hiking and the chance to get away from it all. Red Point beach near Badachro is one of the West Coast’s best beaches and there’s a myriad of others things to do locally including visiting some great restaurants, pubs and inns, hire a bike, fish or get out on the water in a kayak or a canoe.
The Shieldaig Lodge is the perfect West Coast stopping point as part of a North Coast 500 itinerary.
