Royal Marine Hotel Overview
Location: Brora, Highlands, Scotland
The Royal Marine Hotel in Brora was originally a magnificent private mansion built for a wealthy local industrialist in 1913 and designed by renowned Arts and Crafts architect, Robert Lorimer.
Situated in a quiet elevated position above the River Brora, the Royal Marine Hotel offers guests a choice of 21 individually-designed bedrooms and suites, all with a classic charm blended with contemporary conveniences.
The Royal Marine dining room serves guests tasty Scottish breakfasts and dinner with the focus on fresh, local produce including seafood, game, beef and speciality cheeses. The Lounge Bar offers more casual dining plus cocktails, Scottish gins and local malts including drams from the nearby Clynelish Distillery (their distillery tour is highly recommended).
The Royal Marine has its own Bliss Spa offering a wide range of spa treatments and therapies including massage, reflexology and Reiki and there’s a ‘Lunch and Unwind’ option available with certain treatments.
Brora is a popular stopping point on Scotland’s north east coast and especially as part of a North Coast 500 itinerary. It’s a charming town with a stunning, unspoilt beach. Nearby distilleries include the aforementioned Clynelish and a little further south at Tain, you’ll find the world-renowned Glenmorangie.
Five miles south of Brora is one of Scotland’s finest castles, Dunrobin, the family seat of the Earls of Sutherland. The fairy-tale castle stands amongst exceptional walled gardens, filled with a huge variety of specimen plants and flowers and is not to be missed.
For golfers, Brora is on the doorstep and is a classic Scottish links course designed by James Braid. Nearby courses of note also include Golspie and Royal Dornoch.
