Polochar Inn Overview

Location: West Kilbride, Isle of South Uist, Scotland

The Polochar Inn stands on the south-west coast of South Uist and is named after a Bronze-age standing stone situated just across from the Inn and thought to date from around 2000 BC. The Inn sits right beside the beach in a stunning and remote location and it’s the perfect place to escape and unwind surrounded by the very best Scottish west coast scenery.

The hotel offers guests a choice of rooms up to family room size and all rooms are ensuite with TV and complimentary Wi-Fi available throughout the property. The restaurant at the Polochar Inn serves breakfast and hearty dinners with great care taken to source local seasonal produce including seafood, venison and even the local Stornoway black pudding.

Visitors can take the ferry to Lochboisdale on South Uist from either Mallaig or from Oban. The Oban service is winter only. Once on South Uist there’s a huge amount to explore including miles of sandy beaches plus lots of great walking and cycling routes. You’ll find standing stones on South Uist and throughout the Outer Hebrides and guests can also visit the ancient Cladh Hallan Roundhouses.

The island has a monument to Flora Macdonald, saviour of Bonnie Prince Charlie, on the (disputed) site of her house and nearby is the Kildonan Centre which includes a museum and craft shop.

Perhaps the biggest draw to South Uist is the peace and solitude and the Polochar Inn is perfectly located to make the most of everything this very special island has to offer.
