The North East 250 offers a taste of everything that makes Scotland so special, from its heritage to its local delicacies.
The North East 250 route takes in the granite city of Aberdeen, the fishing towns of Fraserburgh and Peterhead and for film fans there’s the coastal villages of Pennan, where Local Hero was filmed and Portsoy, the location for Whisky Galore. Speyside is famous for its Whisky and home to the world-renowned Glenfiddich, Macallan and Aberlour distilleries amongst countless others. Further south and skirting the Cairngorm Mountains, you’ll find Royal Deeside, home to Balmoral Castle and the picturesque towns of Braemar, Ballater, Aboyne and Banchory. The north east of Scotland is famed for its fairy-tale castles, its wildlife, museums, and galleries and you’ll also discover charming farm shops, coffee shops, pubs and restaurants.

Night 1: Starting in Aberdeen, staying a night at the 3-star Leonardo Hotel Aberdeen, B&B in a Standard Room
Spend the morning exploring Aberdeen and some of the city’s many galleries and museums before embarking on your trip. From Aberdeen, drive to Elgin, via the fishing towns of Peterhead and Fraserburgh and the Moray Coast.
Drive from Aberdeen to Elgin, via Peterhead and Fraserburgh: approx. 110 miles
Night 2 & 3: Staying 2 nights at the 4-star Mansion House Hotel in Elgin, B&B in a Standard King Room
After your first night at the Mansion House Hotel in Elign, explore the area around Moray with its amazing beaches (Lossiemouth), coastal villages (Findhorn), golf (lots) and distilleries.
On day 3, drive to Ballater along the River Spey, via Aberlour, the home of Walkers Shortbread and with opportunity to visit more whisky distilleries on the way.

Night 4 & 5: Staying 2 nights at the 3-star Hilton Grand Vacation Club, Craigendarroch in Ballater, Room Only in a Studio
On day 4, explore Royal Deeside with its castles, hills and glens. Make sure you stop at Braemar, a charming village situated in a spectacular mountain scenery.
On the last day of your trip, drive back to Aberdeen and the finish line.
