Springtime in Florence
No need to wait for summer, we’ve decided to bring the heat and sunshine a little closer this year with springtime in Florence, Italy. Regarded by many as the best time to visit this prime city due to its quieter atmosphere and warm climate. Below are some of our must see and do’s for visiting this elegant city in spring.
Glorious Gardens
The beautiful gardens in Florence such as Giardino delle Rose and Giardino dell’Iris showcase the true essence of spring with multi-coloured blossoming flowers and stunning views of Florence. They are located just under the hilltop Piazzale Michelangelo and offer free entry all year round. Get a true taste of the spring outdoors by staying at the luxury Villa San Michele nestled on a sunny hilltop overlooking the city – picturesque doesn’t even come close!
Easter Extravaganza
One of the best visual highlights during spring in Florence is the annual tradition of the ‘Scoppio del Carro’ meaning ‘explosion of the cart’ on Easter Sunday. Where during the day a decorative wagon is paraded around the city accompanied by drummers, flag throwers and figures dressed in historical costume to celebrate a prosperous year. At night the wagon is then light up with a spectacle of fireworks and cheers from the crowd – the picture explains all!
Gorgeous Gelato
Try some real Gelato, the Italian version of ‘ice cream,’ to cool you down. There is a slight haze over the true origin of Gelato (meaning frozen) but its history believes it to be Florence. So where better to indulge than Vivoli the famous family owned Gelato café in Florence, offering some of the best Gelato around – they even put it with their coffee! Do beware however, of the imitation Gelato shops!
